In Honor of Ellen

Ellen Helling, the Local Coordinator of Stark Public Special Olympics for many, many years, Ellen will always be in our thoughts.

 

From Ellen's obituary in the Canton Repository, February 18, 2007:

Ellen M. Helling

Ellen M. Helling, age 62, of Canton, passed away Friday evening, February 16, 2007 in Mercy Medical Center. She was born November 14, 1944 in Canton to Edward and Kathryn (Franklin) Bishop. She graduated from Louisville High School and received her Bachelor’s Degree in American History from the University of Akron and worked as a legal secretary for her husband Victor Helling. Ellen was a coordinator for Stark Public Special Olympics, was a member of the Pilot Club and played tennis at Hall of Fame Fitness Center. She was preceded in death by her husband Victor Helling in 1989 and two brothers, David and Mark Bishop. Survivors include two brothers, Gene (Karen) and Leonard (Tammy) Bishop both of Louisville; nieces and nephews, Lisa (Jamie) Beck, Gina Miller, Amy (Brent) Paulus, Paula Bishop, Judd Bishop, Charles Bishop, William Bishop, Mindy Bishop, Mark (Missy) Bishop, Emily (Todd) Paulus, numerous great nieces, great nephews and friends. Funeral services will be Tuesday 11:00 a.m. in Temple Israel with Rabbi John Spitzer officiating. Interment will be in North Lawn Cemetery. There are no calling hours. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Stark Public Special Olympics, c/o Janet Brunecz, 1421 East Hill Square NE, Canton, OH 44714.
