Bowling

Stark Public Special Olympics (SPSO) offers bowling as one of its sports. The team is coached by Ben Hershberger with support by Theresa Mayes, Amanda C. Cottrell, and Linda Hershberger.

SPSO bowlers participated Feb. 12, 2011, at the Kent Invitational Bowling Tournament, AMF Twin Star Lanes (2245 State Route 59, Kent, OH) sponsored by the Knights of Columbus, Portage County Chapter. Bowling for the Royal Knights were: Nick Hein (2nd); Daniel Grasse (2nd); Jennifer Santucci (2nd); Phillip Tomei (3rd); Raymond Johanson (3rd); Rachelle Borland (4th); Dustin West (4th); and Robert Hershberger (6th).

The Akron, OH Qualifier will be held March 12, 2011 at Bill White’s Akron Lanes, 2911 East Waterloo Road, Akron, OH (330) 628-4822. Click on the link above for directions.

The team is practicing in preparation for the Ohio Summer Games in Columbus, June 24-26, 2011.

Bowlers can be invited to participate at Columbus for the yearly Special Olympics Summer Games after qualifying.

The Akron, OH Qualifier was held March 13, 2010. During the qualifer, SPSO bowlers took home one first place; three second place; five third place; and five fourth place wins. Earlier in the year, Kent invited athletes for a bowling invitational.
